ATTN: CHANGES TO NEWSLETTERS & WEBSITE

Newsletter

Please note that this newsletter covers multiple months - April, May, June, and July. Why? Gwendolyn will be traveling through those dates to Mexico, Albania, (possibly Serbia), Greece, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, and back to Mexico. She will not have access to the necessary tools to maintain our website. For urgent messages, please contact Anita Rakestraw at Anitar@usa.net, as she has the membership list and can send an email. Thank you.

Call to Action

NOTE: If no one steps up, the GAC will soon be without a webmaster, website, or newsletter.
As Gwendolyn has requested in past newsletters, she is asking that another member step up to replace her as webmaster. Due to life changes, she will no longer be able to fill this position. Contrary to popular belief, creating the newsletter and website upkeep is incredibly easy. Unlike in the past, NO programming knowledge is necessary. Gwendolyn WILL TRAIN YOU - either in person or via Zoom.

Notes from our Prez

Next Meeting is Sunday, April 12th, 2026, 1:00PM at Mike and Sandi Penfound’s studio. See map above. Activity is to be determined by Cindy Noel. Think it may be more interviews of the members. So, if you would like to volunteer to do a 15-minute talk about yourself and your adventure in glass, feel free to let Cindy know. Artist TBD
I’m sitting here at my gallery downtown, looking outside the door, and watching a gentle breeze make it rain beautiful flower petals. I love spring. Now, if we could only get it to rain.
I am including the dates, times, and places for the 3 summer meetings: ** Sunday, May 17th at 1:00. Notice the date change as the 10th is Mother's Day. We usually do this in the past, so changing it now is not a new thing. Activity will include doing some fun art games with Deborah. Hopefully, the games will get your creative juices flowing as we head into the fall and holiday months ahead. If not, a good laugh and playtime is always good for the soul. **Sunday, June 14, 2026 at 1:00…. At Mike and Sandi’s backyard. This is our annual picnic so you need to bring a dish to share and extra drinks. Beer and wine allowed. There may be an extra activity or two. Always a good time. **Sunday, July 12th, 2026 at 1:00…. Not sure where yet or activity, but it will be fun and learning. If I can figure out this printmaking thing by then we can learn how to make prints on paper. I do the same thing on glass..same process. So, there is that.
Beyond July, I don’t know. But you can at least write down these dates for the next 4 months.
In July, D&L is having a summer Glass Bash. The flyer is included in this newsletter. As far as taking a trip to a local foundry, there is one (a very good one) in Loveland. We did a tour of this one a couple of years ago, and I was very impressed. Casting bronze or metal is done, basically, the same way you cast glass. The tour starts at 9:30 in the morning, only on a Thursday, and cost $5. It will last about an hour and a half and afterwards we can go someplace for lunch. Kind of a fun day. I checked on the one in Denver and don’t think it would give you the visuals or information you would need or want. Plus the place was really dirty and there was virtually very little parking. The rooms were small and trying to fit even 5 people in there would have been awful. So, if you want to visit the Loveland foundry with me, then let me know which Thursday most of you would like to go and I can make arrangements for a visit. I’ll take a head count and commitment at the next meeting. We can also car pool to Loveland if you want.
Heartbreaking news from ARTMA. One of our kids, Emmalynn, age 4, relapsed right around the event and passed away on the 23rd of March. Sandi and Mike created her piece, Spidey Stitch. Our hearts goes out to her family and friends. Such a great project to do, but it really drives the cause home when we lose one.
Will see you in April. Stay well, away from the hay fever, and enjoy the spring flowers. I’d love to somehow bottle that sweet smell. Would make a great perfume.

ART - What is it?

We throw the word art around so casually. We talk about art, go to exhibits, and call ourselves artists. But when you really stop and think about it… what is art, really? This video shares a few perspectives on how art has been defined across the ages. What are your thoughts? It could make for a great dinner conversation—or a pour-a-glass-of-wine and discuss.
