Monthly Newsletter - August 2025

"Creativity is intelligence having fun” – Albert Einstein
For something fun and different ..... plants at a glass meeting? Yep!
NOTE DIFFERENT LOCATION Next meeting will be on Sunday, August 10, at 1pm At Deborah Carlson's home 5600 E Powers Avenue, Greenwood Village, CO, 80111 PARKING: Park in the driveway or over in the school parking lot Click for Map For questions/issues with the newsletter, please get in touch with Gwendolyn Morgan at designer@mountaingirlglass.com

Notes from our Prez

The next meeting will be at my house. Please note the change in location. I thought I would give Mike and Sandi a break for a month! We can hold the meeting outside, or if it gets too hot, inside. I do have three dogs (basically two toddler pups and a bossy older sister). They might be a little crazy at first, but should settle down quickly. Our last meeting was so much fun; making things out of junk. Gwendolyn has made a little video of our creatures and I will transfer it to our Facebook and Instagram pages. This month … well, we don’t have the drawings yet for ARTMA. Hopefully soon. I will let you know so you can make your choices, and we can get started on that project. No word on a date for the gala. Sometimes life and schedules go slowly. I’m sure we will rally to get everything done in time.
NEXT MEETING FUN - White Elephant Plant Exchange: Bring a plant that will fit into a provided 8" x 10" bag and get set for crazy trading excitement!
Meanwhile, we need a project for August, so I thought, since it is summer and growing season, it might be fun to have a plant white elephant. Same rules as our holiday white elephant, only with plants. They can be either an outdoor or an indoor plant. If you wish to participate, please bring a plant, with no name on it, to place in the middle of the table. When you bring the plant, I have brown paper bags to place it in, and we can staple them shut. That way no one will know the plant they are getting. So, make sure the plants don’t exceed an 8” x 10” bag. You can secretly put the plant into a bag by hiding in one of the bedrooms. Then we will draw numbers and #1 goes first. They choose and unwrap their plant. Then #2 goes and they can either steal #1’s plant or choose a new bag. And so on until we reach the end and then #1 can go again, since they didn’t get to choose to steal or pick being the first one. So much fun and you get to go home with a new plant! You are welcome to add a little glassy plant something to your plant if you wish. Up to you. A plant can only be “stolen” three times before it can’t be stolen anymore. And we WILL keep tabs on this! As usual, please bring a little treat to share. I will have cold water and iced tea to drink. I would also like to talk about next year’s meeting agendas. So many members have expressed a desire to get to know all the members and what they do. So, we can give up to 5 members per meeting the opportunity to do a SHORT “meet the artist” talk and show photos of their work. We did this a couple of years ago, and it turned out really well and a fun way to get to know our fellow artists. So, think about it and I will be awaiting your input as to the format. Please, go to our show at the Lakewood Art Center in the 40 West complex. Lois has done an awesome job putting this show together and curating it. It was well received and Leslie Bitgood got to demo freeze and fuse during the opening. Come and support our fellow artists. This show is sponsored by our club. I have left brochures there, so if you go, please let people know you are a member of this group and if they have any questions about the processes, you would be happy to answer them. Let’s get a lot people there! We have been invited to do this show again next year. If you want to do that, let me know and I will get them to put us on the list.
Please read about all of the opportunities that Gwendolyn has created for the website and newsletter for you, our members. She has worked very hard thinking up new ideas and approaches to make your website incredible. All you have to do is send her the information and she will do the rest.
Hope to see all of you at the meeting this coming Sunday and bring a little plant! If it gets too hot, you are welcome to go stick your feet, or any other bodily part, in the pool. See you soon!

Creatures Run Amok!

Getting Ready for the Kids
Last month's meeting found us creating creatures in preparation for the upcoming ARTMA exhibit, when GAC receives drawings from patients at Children's Hospital, and we recreate them into glass as a fundraiser for childhood cancer research. For our creative meeting exercise, members picked words out of a hat and then let their imaginations run wild as they created creatures out of odds and ends. Lots of fun and laughs.

URGENT: Info Needed From You Pronto :)
As we improve our web presence, our gallery will now host a directory for all of our incredible artists. This will not only highlight the variety of our glass and art, but will also allow viewers to connect with our artists. The image below is a sample of what it will look like. The gallery will list all of our members' names, including a website, if available. For the artist's image on the directory, you can elect to show a picture of yourself or a sample of your work. I can list any information you would like the public to see, such as your website or your email, if you wish. I can also link out to multiple images of your work, if you would like to share more. NOTE - ONLY THE INFORMATION THAT YOU WANT INCLUDED WILL BE SHARED URGENT NEED: Please send Gwendolyn Morgan, designer@mountaingirlglass.com , your desired information right away, as she is working to get the gallery up as soon as possible. Thanks much.

FOR SALE: Skutt HotspotPro and FireBox 14 I recently bought a larger kiln and don’t have room for my old one, a Skutt HotspotPro and FireBox 14. It is a 2008 that has had two owners, both of whom are selling it after getting larger kilns. It is a workhorse! It is very easy to operate. The electrical requirements are: voltage 115, amps 15, watts 1690, wire size (gauge) 12, breaker size 20, max temperature is 1650, and NEMATODE receptacle 5-15. I have the manual for it, and it includes a shelf. I am asking $450 for it. Leslie Zetterstrom 303/204-1110, llzjinco@gmail.com
