Notes from our Prez

Next meeting is Sunday, January 11, 2026, 1pm, at the home/studio of Mike and Sandi Penfound - Click for Map.   HOLIDAY PARTYThe Holiday party was really well attended and so much fun.  We had some really sneaky people at the white elephant game this year.  I thank all who came.  It’s fun to let our hair down and enjoy each other and just visit.   MEMBER PRESENTATIONS At our January meeting, we will have, as requested, three members give a brief summary of their work and history with their medium they have all chosen to work with.   Sandi Penfound, just Sandi, will be one of the presenters, and the other two will be kept secret until the meeting.  You’ll have to come to the meeting to see who the other ones are.   MEMBERSHIP As always, at the first of the year, dues for 2026 are due.  Hopefully Anita will be there to take the information and Sandi to take the dues.  We have a very healthy balance, due to a incredible year at Echter’s, best one yet, so the dues will stay the same.
ARTMA You can bring your pieces for ARTMA to the meeting, and I’ll take them to my house to pack up, and photograph. FYI - The ARTMA pieces are due by the end of January. I’ll announce a day to bring them to my house. We need to photograph and label them. If you need an extension, please talk to me. I do have release forms for Morgan Adams Foundation for you to fill out.
Any questions, feel free to text me. 720-938-9450 (tel:720-938-9450) Please let me know who is texting me so I don’t think it is spam.
See you on the 11th. Deborah Carlson

Tips & Tricks

Before you know it, we will be making beads for Beads of Courage. Yay!! Such a fun day working together for a good cause. I mean, we do still have several months to get ready, but until then, this may be a good chance to practice or come up with design ideas. For those who don't do flame work, our group bead-making session also comes with plenty of instructions from our fabulous flamework members. Sooo, you can come with zero knowledge, have a blast, and walk away knowing that you made beads for a great cause AND learned a new glass skill in the process. Whether you are a seasoned veteran making beads, or this will be your first intro to the artform, now may be the time to start getting ideas for designs.
  • Get those creative juices flowing ....
YouTube offers quick and easy ways to spark your imagination. Simply go to YouTube, search for 'making glass beads' or 'glass bead designs', and you will be off and running. Happy designing!
PS ... Do you have a great tip to share? Pass it on to Gwendolyn.

Hey, all ... just a heads-up. I will be moving my studio to Mexico over the next several months. I am in the beginning phase of deciding what to move and what to sell. Things I'll possibly be selling include 4 kilns, various types of grinders, a lap wheel, a sandblaster, a saw, glass, etc. Oh, and molds ... I have a ton of them, many never used.

This video will give you a glimpse of some of the things in my studio. Soooooo ... if you are in the market for anything, please contact me, I may have what you need.
FOR SALE: Skutt HotspotPro and FireBox 14 I recently bought a larger kiln and don’t have room for my old one, a Skutt HotspotPro and FireBox 14. It is a 2008 that has had two owners, both of whom are selling it after getting larger kilns. It is a workhorse! It is very easy to operate. The electrical requirements are: voltage 115, amps 15, watts 1690, wire size (gauge) 12, breaker size 20, max temperature is 1650, and NEMATODE receptacle 5-15. I have the manual for it, and it includes a shelf. I am asking $450 for it. Leslie Zetterstrom 303/204-1110, llzjinco@gmail.com

Members Gallery Online

Let folks know your and your art! Have you sent in your info? This is for GAC members and for the Public visiting our site.
Our Member Gallery is now on our website. Check it out here. We had initially offered to add multiple pictures per person, if desired. However, due to the way the website is currently set up, that would make upkeep difficult. But not to worry, I will be rebuilding our site over the next 6-12 months, and then we will be able to offer that service. In the meantime, we can list one image per member -- you can choose to either have a picture of yourself posted, OR a sample of your work. In addition, we can include information such as studio names, links to websites, location, email, phone number -- the amount of information posted is completely up to you. ONLY THE INFORMATION THAT YOU WANT INCLUDED WILL BE SHARED If you do not send us your information, we will only list your name as a member. Please send Gwendolyn Morgan, designer@mountaingirlglass.com , your desired information right away, as she is working to get the gallery up as soon as possible. Thanks much.
