Good Stuff from our Prez

Since we learned how to make paper at the last meeting, this month's meeting will be about how to decorate your paper images, and also all of the things that can be made out of the paper sheets. All of this can be easily transferred to glass. You can mix your glass fine frit, or powders, with one of the various binders and roll it out flat or press into molds and then fuse. They can be put together just as you would put the paper together. I will bring inks and paints. You can bring whatever medium you would like to experiment with. I can have extra handmade papers there, also. We can do some of this outside, since it may be a little messy. I think Mike and Sandi would appreciate that! We will also have a special guest speaker at this meeting. Since we learned about Leslie Silverman’s beginnings in the glass world in Colorado, I have invited another person who has been in the glass business since 1971, or had her store, The Original Glass Works, since 1971. Her store is still up and running. Susan Peppel will be joining us with a talk and question and answer time, about her 54 year old business. Her beginning store was in Cinder Alley of the old (and first mall in Colorado) Cinderella City. I remember that store when I first saw it around 1973 or’74. I did not realize that Susan started that store. I have known Susan since the old days of the Botanic Garden Shows, and have stopped by her store in the Cherry Hills Marketplace many times. So interesting to hear her story about the roots of the glass world in the Denver area. She is now a member of GAC and I can’t wait for you to meet her or reacquaint yourself with her. Susan does mostly flat glass in coper foil and 3-D construction. Trying to get the old crew back with us. They have so much knowledge to share. Please help me welcome her back to the group. As usual, please bring something to share. We will have water and drinks there. It is almost Cinco De Mayo, so chips and dip would be fun. I look forward to seeing you all there. Deborah Carlson

Glass and Bead Expo

Does everyting really stay in LV?
Those who made it to the Glass and Bead Expo in Las Vegas this year had a ton of fun. Glass was melted, beads were made, a few umbrella drinks were enjoyed, and there was even a bit of wire wrapping thrown in.

Papermaking

Expanding our Creativity with a Little Pulp
From glass to a softer creation. At last month's meeting, we learned to make homemade paper. It was a beautiful day in Colorado, and we were able to work outdoors, which was a nice change of pace from indoor studio work.
This month, we'll take a look at how to decorate our paper or create things from our sheets of paper. We will also take a look at how to translate our paper creations into glass.
